Administrative Segregation and the SHU Empty
PostSubject: Administrative Segregation and the SHU   Administrative Segregation and the SHU EmptyTue Apr 28, 2015 11:03 pm

There's some common misconceptions about Ad-seg and the SHU. This thread will hopefully describe the process of isolating an inmate and allow you to tell us where your characters been without your story sounding far-fetched. Ad-seg is where inmates are taken following an investigation. If the ISU believes that you are in danger or that you are involved in any sort of crime, they will put you in Ad-seg in order to conduct further investigation. People normally only end up in Ad-seg for one to two weeks. In Ad-seg you will either be a) transferred to the SHU after they have conducted an extensive investigation, b) transferred to protective custody following your request or to save you from the sharks, or c) released back to the mainline due to lack of evidence or on your own request (if you refuse to go to PC.)

The SHU is where you're sent for a specific amount of time for your crime or an indeterminate sentence (which means for life.) In order to receive an indeterminate sentence, you must be identified as a high risk inmate or apart of a Security Threat Group (prison gang.) SHU sentences are normally long. So if you go away to the SHU and come back the next day, that will be a far-fetched story. If you go to Ad-seg and return the next day, it would make more sense, although it's not 100% realistic. Due to the lack of server applications, we must make a compromise.
